Wehrli Custom Fabrication highly recommends using an outerwears air filter coveror pre-filter for all WCFab air filters in their turbo kits and intake kits. These pre-filters are specifically designed to deflect damaging debris, which can clog air filters and compromise peak air-flow and horsepower. In addition, by using a pre-filter, you can extend the time between servicing intervals for your primary air filter media, reducing costs and increasing convenience.

WCFAB pre-filters feature uniform micron openings and are run dry. No additional oils or additives are necessary. This dry method prevents dirt from sticking to the oil, which can result in reduced airflow and horsepower. Only particles smaller than .005" can pass through the pre-filter, while larger particles simply fall off. Additionally, these filter covers are constructed with a specially treated woven mesh that repels water without causing any airflow loss. Whether you use your vehicle for everyday driving or hard-core off-road racing, pre-filters are a reliable option to protect and prolong the life of your performance air filter and engine.

The hydrophobic treatment lasts for six months to one year, depending on usage and conditions. If water enters through the pre-filter, it's time to purchase a new cover.

Maintenance and cleaning of the pre-filter depend on driving conditions and may vary. WCFAB recommend visually inspecting the pre-filter as often as you would normally service your vehicle. For vehicles that are exposed to dirt track competition or dirt road driving, they advise checking the pre-filter after every race or trip. if you notice a significant amount of dirt, it's time to clean the pre-filter. If you primarily drive on the street, they suggest checking the pre-filter every 3,000-5,000 miles. While a thorough cleaning may not be necessary, shaking off any excess dirt is recommended to maintain optimum horsepower and fuel efficiency. Caked debris can be loosened by soaking the filter cover in a mild soapy water solution, then rinsing clean and allowing it to dry before reinstallation. Avoid scrubbing or using aggressive cleaning chemicals, as they can damage the pre-filter and its hydrophobic treatment, resulting in reduced efficiency and premature failure.
